Sleighbells and Brass featuring Tom Hutchinson
By special arrangement, the band will host the world-renowned cornet soloist Mr. Tom Hutchinson on our traditional Sleighbells and Brass Christmas Concert. The concert takes place on Sunday, December 18, 2022, 2:00 pm at the Orillia Opera House. Mr. Hutchinson is the Principal Cornetist of the European champion Cory Band – based in Wales, United Kingdom. The Orillia Silver Band is thrilled to be able to bring a soloist of Mr. Hutchinson’s stature to the City of Orillia, especially in time for the 2022 holiday season! Mr. Hutchinson will perform several selections with the band, so come prepared to experience a wide variety of cornet music, delivered by a world-famous master of the art. The Orillia Silver Band celebrates the holiday season with its traditional Sleighbells and Brass Christmas Concert. Along with the special guest soloist, Neil Barlow, the band’s Music Director and Conductor, has made sure that there is plenty of traditional holiday music on offer that is sure to be of interest to all music lovers! Among the items to be performed by the band during the Christmas concert this year are Gustav Holst’s Christmas Day, Kevin Norbury’s exciting Gaudete!, and a wonderful setting of Joy to the World by William Himes. Also included is a set of dances from the beautiful Nutcracker Ballet by Tchaikovsky.
This year, in addition to the exciting offerings described above, the band will present the beloved holiday medley A Christmas Festival by Leroy Anderson. And it wouldn’t be a Silver Band Christmas concert without an audience-request sing-a-long. So come prepared to exercise the vocal chords with your favourite Christmas carols.
